Inspired by Mother Nature
Our unique approach to sluice box design takes advantage of a continuous slowing of the water current, causing more gold to deposit out, increasing your efficiency, giving you back more time for fishing, hiking, drinking, what have you.
We started by trying to improve our methods of extracting the gold from our concentrates. After about the 10th generation of sluice, we settled on our unique design.
Our design in different from the other 98% of the sluice boxes out there that are built straight. There is no flow difference from the start to the finish. The water’s velocity is the same from head to tail. We looked to Mother Nature’s concept of an Alluvial Fan, or Plain, to come up with a much better method of extracting gold.
Prospectors Choice Alluvial design takes advantage of a continuously slowing water current, and just like in nature, drops more gold in less time.
The Alluvial effect creates a continuously lowering water pressure zone, allowing gold of different sizes and weights to drop out of suspension at different intervals. This sluice box works by a constant capture system. We have focused on the entire length of the sluice box as being one big capture element.
How it works
Upon entering the sluice, the material instantly lands on a heavy duty assay matting, made of ribbed rubber matting.
The material then flows over our riffles, backed by black ribbed carpet.
This style of riffle allows for easy clearing of gravels, while still capturing even the smallest pieces of gold.
The black background shows high-contrast material such as gold very well.
Hinged riffle design makes clean up quick and easy.
Compact size makes clean up into a pan, bucket or tub simple and easy.
The sluice or trough of these are made from 5052 16-gauge (1/16’) aluminum. It has a high fatigue strength, excellent corrosion resistance, perfect for marine atmospheres. The header box, or cap contains the water delivery system which limit’s the amount of water and its surface thickness, producing a constant water flow, which controls pressure using the valve. Shallow tapered sides make it easy to get in with a snuffer bottle. Standard 3/4” hose connections make it simple to hook up to garden hose or 12-volt pump.
Even the rivets are aluminum so you can use a magnet on the black sand.
Made much in the spirit of a miller table, the concept is the same, flat smooth water surface with minimal slope of sluice/trough, for recovery of flour or gold dust. If you have ever panned for gold you know what it takes to get down to concentrates in a pan, then the time consuming swirling, and tapping and washing of the heavy’s and black sand.
You will be amazed at how much gold is still left in your black sands & concentrates.
All of this can be mounted to our frame and legs system.
Angle, pitch and water flow determines the speed at which the riffles clean, and can be done with our adjustable legs.
Each leg is made from 18 gauge, cold rolled 5/8″ square tube. They are then machined with counter facing thru holes, spaced 1″ apart. By simply turning a leg 90 degree’s, allows the operator independent adjustment to each leg by 1/2″ increments. By utilizing “keeper pins,” we have eliminated the need for tools, and have removed the risk of stripping threads or loosing nuts and bolts altogether. Pad feet allow for stable working conditions in the field as well as on the back porch or in your garage. Literally seconds to set up.
The header box, or cap, contains the water delivery system, which in turn limits the amount of water and its surface thickness, thus giving the operator more control over the amount of water washing the gold-bearing gravels. By utilizing a constant, controllable water flow, the operator has the ability to process different types/sizes of material. The shallow tapered sides allow for easy access. Standard hose connections make it simple to hook up to 12 volt pump. Can be run with continuous flow of water, such as from stream or other body of water. Also maybe used as a recirculating sluice.
